MANNING, John N. (Petersburg, IL, Sept. 5, 1844--Grantsville Township, Linn, MO, Mar. 13, 1919). Manning learned his future business in Chicago and served an apprenticeship. His first job was superintendent of the steam-heating department of the Crane Brothers Manufacturing Company for five years. He was in charge of outside construction.

Coming to Dubuque in August 1879, he became the superintendent of the DUBUQUE STEAM HEAT COMPANY.
