Liberty Bell

LIBERTY BELL. Proud symbol of our independence. In the early 1900s the Liberty Bell traveled about the United States by train to various expositions.

In 1904 the bell passed through Dubuque on its way to the Louisiana Purchase Exposition, more commonly known as the St. Louis World's Fair. Visitors viewed the bell in the open air. Small children were occasionally hoisted onto the bell by cooperative guards.

The bell again visited Dubuque in July 1915, when it was routed through the city by rail on its way to the Pan-Pacific International Exposition held in San Francisco.
