KUTSCH, Joseph P. (Dubuque, IA, Oct. 6, 1859--Dubuque, IA, Oct. 9, 1939). As a student of his father, Kutsch learned contracting and building skills. In 1889 he joined the Kutsch Brothers' Contractors firm. (1) Among his projects were ST. MARY'S CASINO, Immaculate Conception Academy, and St. Francis convent.
In the 1890s, Kutsch was also one of the finest marksmen in the United States. In local, state and national target shooting matches he won a total of 26 medals and several trophies. (2) At the DUBUQUE SHOOTING SOCIETY, he was declared the best marksman in 1890. He was the gold medal marksman at the Columbian Exposition in Chicago in 1893. (3)
