KINTZINGER, Martha Jean. (Bartlesville, OK, Jan. 9, 1926--Dubuque, IA, May 31, 2012) The daughter of Clarence East Bartlett and Vada Ruth Shields Bartlett, both Oklahoma pioneers, Martha eagerly participated in Girl Scouting, camping and musical activities and developed a lifelong love of swimming. These interests led her to Girl Scout adventures and camp counseling jobs as a young woman, and to her college majors of physical education and music/fine arts. She graduated from the Oklahoma College of Women in Chickasha, Oklahoma in 1947 with a bachelor of fine arts.

During her career as a Girl Scout executive, Martha lived in Boston and directed the summer Girl Scout Camp Treasure Island on Lake Winnepausakee, New Hampshire. She then served as the Girl Scout Executive Director for the Dubuque Girl Scout Council.

Martha married Charles KINTZINGER on April 26, 1952, at the First Congregational Church (FIRST CONGREGATIONAL UNITED CHURCH OF CHRIST) in Dubuque, and the young couple spent their honeymoon summer at Dubuque's Girl Scout Camp Little Cloud.

As a devoted mother and tireless homemaker, Martha, together with Chuck, raised four children and supported her husband in building his law practice.

Martha was an energetic community volunteer and fundraiser, donating her time to the United Way, DUBUQUE VISITING NURSE ASSOCIATION, YOUNG MEN'S CHRISTIAN ASSOCIATION (Y.M.C.A.), Sunshine Circle Auxillary, the Girl Scouts and other organizations that found her leadership skills valuable. She was a member of the FIRST CONGREGATIONAL UNITED CHURCH OF CHRIST and participated in the church bell choir and the STEPHEN MINISTRY. Martha, a 60-year member of the sisterhood of PEO, served on the PEO State Executive Board and as PEO State President.
