KAUFMANN, Joseph K.
KAUFMANN, Joseph K. (Dubuque, IA, Mar. 16, 1858--Dubuque, IA, Sept. 1, 1929). Kaufmann worked at JAMES CUSHING AND SON VINEGAR COMPANY as the superintendent for twelve years and a traveling salesman for seventeen years.
He served as chief deputy under County Sheriff Thomas J. CONLIN and for a time under Sheriff John Steiner. He became a candidate for City Alderman on the Democratic ticket in 1894 and was elected from the Fifth Ward for a term of two years. He served as Chairman of the Committee on Streets. Kaufmann was a member of the Dubuque County Board of Supervisors for sixteen months. He was appointed to the position and took office on August 22, 1912, after Joseph Connolly died.
