JAMES MELVILLE'S AUSTRALIAN CIRCUS. The Sydney rider, James Melville, toured his circus throughout the mid-west at the height of the CIVIL WAR, moving along the MISSISSIPPI RIVER in a stern-wheel steamboat, landing and giving performances to Union soldiers one day and Confederates the next. (1) It came to Dubuque in May, 1864. (2)
