J. P. Schroeder Block constructed in 1882 in the Italianate style of architecture. The grocery store was located on the lower level with apartments on the upper floor.

J. P. SCHROEDER. J. P. Schroeder was the son of Frank SCHROEDER. It was J. P. Schroeder who became the second owner of HOUSE OF DENTISTS (THE) and the real estate investor who developed the Schroeder Addition to Dubuque along Clarke Drive.

The 1884-1885 and 1886-87 Dubuque City Directory listed 1603 Clay. The grocery was added around 1886.

The 1890-91 through 1899-1900 Dubuque City Directory listed the corner of 8th and White for J. P. Schroeder and Company.
