HOWE, Lynette M.
Howe, Lynette M. (Dubuque, IA, Sept. 19, 1947-- ). Howe served on the YOUNG WOMEN'S CHRISTIAN ASSOCIATION (Y.W.C.A.) board for three years. On the board of HOSPICE OF DUBUQUE, she developed the bereavement program and in 1997 continued to serve as a consultant. Howe was the president of the local chapter of the American Association of University Women and held the presidency of the Mercy Alumni. She served two terms as a member of the Mercy Alumni Board and in 1980 received the Mary McCormick Award for Outstanding Social Work Student.
Beginning as a staff nurse at Mercy Hospital in 1968, Howe moved the following year to a similar position as a staff nurse in intensive care at XAVIER HOSPITAL. She worked in intensive care in Iowa City until 1972 when she returned to Dubuque to work in mental health and substance abuse. In 1980 she was the director of Outreach-Project Concern. Beginning in 1983 Howe served as a psychiatric social worker for the Dubuque County Mental Health (GANNON CENTER). In 1987 she taught social work part-time at LORAS COLLEGE and from 1990 to 1996 taught the same subject at CLARKE COLLEGE.
