HISTORIC HIGHWAY 20
HISTORIC HIGHWAY 20. In 1926 the original U.S. Route 20 ran an estimated 3,365 miles from Boston, Massachusetts to Newport, Oregon. In Iowa, the road ran from Dubuque to Sioux City and covered 333 miles. The beginning of Iowa's part was Locust and West 6th STREETS.
In 2020 the Historic Route 20 Association Inc. contacted the City of Dubuque's Planning Services Department asking permission to install signs in the city. The goal of the project nationwide was to attract people back to the small towns along the route.
