HETHERINGTON, Wlliam M. (Dubuque, IA, Apr. 24, 1863--Dubuque, IA, Nov. 9, 1926). Hetherington began his business life as a messenger at the FIRST NATIONAL BANK OF DUBUQUE. He moved to Platteville, Wisconsin after several years where he organized the First National Bank of Platteville and became its president. Hetherington then moved to Spokane, Washington where he was associated with the Fidelity National Bank and the head of its bond department and was also vice-president of the Union Park Bank.

After the death of Benjamin Franklin BLOCKLINGER in 1918, Hetherington was asked to return to Dubuque and First National Bank. Upon the death of Charles H. EIGHMEY he became the bank's president.

In the community, Hetherington served for years as the president of the YOUNG MEN'S CHRISTIAN ASSOCIATION (Y.M.C.A.) and at the time of his death was one of its trustees. He was also a members of the boards of LINWOOD CEMETERY and the CARNEGIE-STOUT PUBLIC LIBRARY.
