HERRMANN, William Jacob
HERRMANN, William Jacob. (Dubuque, IA, Jan. 24, 1915--Dubuque, IA, Dec. 2,1988). In 1936 Herrmann was one of six young men from the Dubuque area and 106 from the State of Iowa to be appointed reserve corp officers. He was appointed a second lieutenant of the engineers' corps. (1) He eventually served as a captain in the Army Corps of Engineers.
He worked at the U. S. Steel Company in Chicago for thirty-four years before retiring. While living in Chicago he was a Shriner of the Medina Temple, a member of the Blue Lodge of the Masonic Temple, and a Sea Scout leader for twenty-five years.
Hermann served as president of the DUBUQUE COUNTY HISTORICAL SOCIETY, board member and president of the Dubuque Audubon Society, and chairman of the trustees for IMMANUEL CONGREGATIONAL UNITED CHURCH OF CHRIST. (2)
