. HERMAN J. ROERIG. (Minneapolis, MN, 1902--Apr. 7, 1988). Roerig's interest in art at St. Thomas Academy drew the attention of Father Edmond Coughlin who encouraged him to study three years at the Minneapolis Institute of Arts and later completing a four year program at the St. Paul School of Art. He came to Dubuque in 1936 to take charge of the art department of the Taylor-Yonkers Company. His artistic background included figure drawing from Eugene Geary, sculpture from Charles Wells, advertising art from Frederick Calhoun and painting from the internationally famous Cameron Booth. Prior to coming to Dubuque, he was considered one of the Twin Cities' finest commercial artists.
