HANSEN, Nicholas
HANSEN, Nicholas. (Luxemburg, Germany, Feb. 24, 1834--Apr. 15, 1889). Hansen emigrated to Dubuque in 1853 and became a clerk in a grocery. He opened his own grocery in 1872. (1)
In 1880 Hansen was a partner in the firm of HANSEN AND LINEHAN, wholesale grocers, railroad and steamboat supplies, at No. 8 Levee. (2) Hansen and Linehan and W. J. Brown, a clerk in their store, also established the UNITED STATES ELECTRIC LIGHT AND POWER COMPANY in Dubuque. (3) This business continued until his death in 1889.
