HANSEL, David R.
HANSEL, David R. (Dubuque, IA, October 9, 1950--Dubuque, IA, Feb. 4, 2013). The son of Robert and Marie (Walech) Hansel, David Hansel attended Nativity and WAHLERT CATHOLIC HIGH SCHOOL, graduating in 1968. On September 14, 1974 he married Elaine Feldmann of Epworth, his wife of 38 years.
Employed at the DUBUQUE PACKING COMPANY for 10 years, he was a member of local 150, serving as steward and recording secretary. He then worked briefly for the United Way. He was a realtor since 1978, working at Gibson Partners, Abba Realty, Iowa Partners and Remax. In 2001, he and Elaine opened their own real estate company, Hansel Realty, working with a team. They then joined Ruhl and Ruhl in 2009, where he ended his career due to his health.
He and Elaine took volunteer cleanup project trips to Mississippi after Hurricane Katrina, to Parkersburg after the tornado, and to Cedar Rapids after the floods. He also mentored many students. His involvement with WORD OF LIFE MINISTRIES began with him being a founding member of the board of directors. He served as an adviser to the board, volunteered as an usher, and was involved with youth activities and the prayer team. He took classes at the church and graduated from the Life Bible Academy.
David was active in the community. For thirty years, he was a volunteer director on the Dupaco Credit Union board of directors and served as its chairman twice. He was also involved as a director of the Dubuque Board of Realtors, also serving twice as president. He was a member of the Morning Optimist Club, serving as President and helping at the funnel cake booth at the DUBUQUE COUNTY FAIR. He and Elaine participated in the kid's activities such as scouting, church camps, and coaching AYSO soccer. He served as a director at MOUNT PLEASANT HOME.
