GREEN DUBUQUE, INC. In 2008 Green Dubuque, Inc. was begun as a non-profit organization by young professionals committed to reducing the city's greenhouse gas emissions, promoting smart development, expanding urban green space, and protecting local ecosystems. The organization's goals included linking-up local organizations and individuals already involved and establishing a website--greendubuque.org--to provide resources for those who wished to be informed about global environmental issues.

A project begun in 2008 was called "2,010 by 2010." This project aimed at reducing Dubuque's greenhouse gas emissions by the amount that 2,010 cars would produce in a year and achieve this by 2010. Green Dubuque was also distributing six cost and energy saving Compact Fluorescent Light bubs (CFLs) to households that offered a promise to participate in a renewable energy alternative such as Alliant Energy's Second Nature Program.
