GREAT TRI-STATE SURPLUS STORE. The grand opening of the store occurred on April 5, 1951. The store was an outlet for surplus goods including men's work and dress clothing, camping equipment, fishing tackle and paint. The building in which it opened was the former site of the Reed and Conley surplus store. A feature of the opening day was the presentation of roses for women, socks to men and caps to children.

The 1955 through 1970 Dubuque City Directory listed 600 Main.

The 1972 through 1983 Dubuque City Directory listed 301 Main.
