GRAND OPERA HOUSE BUFFET. The license to operate a tavern was much more expensive than one to maintain a restaurant. The idea of operating a "buffet" allowed the sale of liquor with food at less cost to the owner.

The Dubuque City Directory of 1909 gave the address of this business as 289 8th.
