GLAB, Roy. (Dubuque, IA, Dec. 10, 1904--Dubuque, IA, Jan. 14, 1974). Glab was engaged in banking his entire adult life starting with work at the GERMAN AMERICAN SAVINGS BANK and later with AMERICAN TRUST AND SAVINGS BANK for fifty-three years. He began as the fourth man on a four-man team as a messenger. He was promoted to messenger janitor at the bank's original building at 18th and Central. He once remarked with the new position came a slightly higher salary with the duties of cleaning the building, washing windows and firing the furnace. He eventually became executive vice-president and secretary. (1)
Glab served as president of the 660 Club of the DUBUQUE SHOOTING SOCIETY, Dubuque County Bankers Association, and the DUBUQUE GOLF AND COUNTRY CLUB. He was an honorary member of the DUBUQUE TRAVELING AND BUSINESS MEN'S ASSOCIATION and the Rotary Club. A member of the Elks, Glab served as exalted ruler and on its directorate.
