GLAB, Alois (Dubuque, IA, July 15, 1862--Dubuque, IA, Dec. 1, 1942). Glab was the son of Adam GLAB, the founder of the GLAB BREWERY and one of the first brewmasters of DUBUQUE BREWING AND MALTING COMPANY. The home and 2-story carriage house was constructed for Glab and his wife, Catherine.

In the 1950s the home was purchased by Art Nagel, a former housing inspector. Nagel converted the second and third floors into apartments. He was said to have had to clean up the third floor during this process from its former use as the scene of cock fights during PROHIBITION.

In 2010 the home was purchased by Jeff Stiles, a member of the zoning commission and Sustainable Neighborhood Builders, who had lived across the street for many years. Stiles planned to develop the mansion eventually into a bed and breakfast.

In April 2013, the DUBUQUE COUNTY HISTORICAL SOCIETY announced that the home would receive an Historic Preservation Award on April 23rd as part of Dubuque Main Street's Architecture Days.
