GILLIAM, Charles R.
GILLIAM, Charles R. (Greene, IA, Aug. 21, 1929--Santa Clara, UT, Oct. 1, 2010). Gilliam enlisted in the Marine Corps in 1946 and served during the KOREAN CONFLICT. He remained in the military until 1953 and was filmed in the Corsair scenes of the movie "The Fighting Leathernecks."
Gilliam came to Dubuque as the president of FRUDDEN LUMBER COMPANY and retired at the age of fifty-nine when the company was sold. He lived in Dubuque until 1990 and served on the boards of LINWOOD CEMETERY and FINLEY HOSPITAL (THE). He was a former president of the Iowa Lumberman's Association.
Gilliam and his wife Gretchen were members of FIRST CONGREGATIONAL UNITED CHURCH OF CHRIST. She served as the choir director and recorded the music. He put together an album and had an LP record made.
