GEHRIG, Dagabert A. (Switzerland, Feb. 16, 1852--Dubuque, IA, 1927). Gehrig's parents came to Dubuque in 1855 when he was only three years of age. He attended school here and in 1874 he went into the office of the City Treasurer. He joined the staff of the office of the County Treasurer, V.J. Williams and was later appointed Deputy County Treasurer. He held that position until April, 1880, when he received the nomination and was elected City Treasurer. He was then the youngest person ever elected to that office in the city.
Gehrig was a member of the DUBUQUE SHOOTING SOCIETY.
