DUBUQUE MAKE A DIFFERENCE DAY. An annual event that traditionally focused on weatherization and yard project assistance to those in need, the event in 2017 took a new focus. Located at St. Mark Youth Enrichment, the event featured volunteers serving as personal shoppers who walked with those attending to help them pick out items they needed.

Although 160 were expected, the blankets, trash bags, towels, dish soap and other items were expected to impact an estimated 460 people. Attendees were referred by community agencies including local shelters and New View Community Action Agency. Sponsors of the event included the Telegraph Herald. (1)

In 2021 the decision was made to end the event since many other organizations met the same need. As a culminating activity event organizers and CONVIVIUM URBAN FARMSTEAD planned to a lasting legacy for the city. The two groups would plant apple trees throughout the city and would encourage those in need of healthy food to pick fruit for free. The trees would be funded by money remaining from 2021, an estimated $3,600. (2)
