DUBUQUE LIBRARY ASSOCIATION. The Dubuque Library Association was organized late in 1855 with Platt SMITH president; Austin ADAMS, vice president; and J. S. Blatchley, librarian. The object was to collect a library of general literature. (1)

By March, 1856 the Association had sixty members and 200 volumes. A membership fee was set at $5.00. (2)

The organization was known as the YOUNG MEN'S LITERARY ASSOCIATION by 1863 when it was renamed the Young Men's Library Association. (3)
