DUBUQUE ARTS ALLIANCE

DUBUQUE ARTS ALLIANCE. Founded in January 1990, as a combination of nine tax-exempt arts organizations. Charter members included the BARN COMMUNITY THEATER, DUBUQUE SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA, Museum of Art, COLTS DRUM AND BUGLE CORPS, DUBUQUE ARTS COUNCIL, Very Special Arts, DUBUQUE COUNTY FINE ARTS SOCIETY, Dubuque Wind Ensemble, and the DUBUQUE COUNTY HISTORICAL SOCIETY.

Representatives of these organizations met with representatives of LORAS COLLEGE, UNIVERSITY OF DUBUQUE, CLARKE COLLEGE, CARNEGIE-STOUT PUBLIC LIBRARY and the FIVE FLAGS CIVIC CENTER to explore advantages in cooperative efforts including marketing, arts education, and grant writing. Ruth NASH was chosen chair pro tem and Gladys Stubben secretary-treasurer pro tem.

Projects planned for the Alliance included producing a brochure describing programs featured by the cultural groups of Dubuque. An assessment of Dubuque's cultural programs and facilities was also planned.
