COURSEY, Lois E.
COURSEY, Lois Eileen (Pinedale, WY, Mar. 7, 1936--Dubuque, IA, Apr, 24, 2006). Born on a cattle ranch, Coursey graduated from the University of Montana and taught for two years at a junior high school in North Bend, Oregon. She moved to Iowa in 1960 and worked as a librarian at DUBUQUE SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL from 1960 to 1987. (1) She and her husband Wayne founded PAM Imports, a business dealing with sports cars, in 1964. In 1967 they also became a franchised BMW motorcycle dealer. (2)
Coursey served on the CARNEGIE-STOUT PUBLIC LIBRARY Board of Trustees from 1973 to 1985 and was the essay contest chairman for the DAUGHTERS OF THE AMERICAN REVOLUTION,. In 1988 she was elected to the newly formed Carnegie-Stout Public Library Foundation. (3)
Beginning in 1992, Coursey served as the grade school editor for the Iowa Poetry Association which annually published "Lyrical Iowa," an anthology of poetry written by Iowans.
She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, The Mayflower Society, Dubuque Retired School Personnel, and the Herb Society at the DUBUQUE ARBORETUM AND BOTANICAL GARDENS. She and her husband were members of a Chicago Motorcycle group called "The Steeterville Scramblers" which sponsored Motorcycle trips worldwide. Among their trips were adventures to Canada, Mexico, Costa Rica, Panama, Austria, Germany, France, Italy, Spain, Wales, Scotland, and United Kingdom. (4)
