CORKEN, Chris. (Chicago, IL-- ). Corken came to Dubuque to attend CLARKE COLLEGE. She graduated in 1974 with a bachelor's degree and plans for a career in city planning. She had accepted a position with the city management office in Dubuque when some friends convinced her to take the Law School Admission Test.

Her success led to her attending law school at St. Louis University. Corken graduated in 1977 with a focus on criminal law. Before being hired in Dubuque County in 1984, she worked in the state's attorney offices in Monroe County, Illinois and Jo Daviess County, Illinois. In addition to her full-time job, she was a mother of six children.

As a result of her working on cross burning cases, her house was firebombed in 1988. No one was injured and there was minor damage.

Corken retired in 2015 as the first assistant Dubuque County Attorney after nearly forty years of courtroom experience.
