COLONIAL REVIVAL ARCHITECTURE. Americans in the early 1890s began to value their own heritage and architecture. This opinion came after the Centennial Exhibition of 1876 encouraged Americans to look back to their colonial past.

Colonial Revival followed the appearance of American colonial architecture of the period around the Revolutionary War. Buildings were usually two stories high with the ridge pole running parallel to the street. Other features included a symmetrical front facade with an accented doorway and evenly spaced windows on either side of it.
