CITY WOOD MEASURER
CITY WOOD MEASURER. In the late 1800s, farmers often made extra money bringing cut wood to the city for sale. The variation in amount, however, led to the creation of an official wood measurer. Being caught selling wood without it first being measured led to a fine. In November 1878, a Mr. J. Burlette was fined five dollars for such an infraction of the law.
