CENTENNIAL GARDENS
CENTENNIAL GARDENS. Centennial Gardens was purchased by John Krayer in 1877 and renovated. The large hall was redesigned to have a lunch and dining room; new booths were constructed on the grounds; and the Sunday dancing hall and "all the other objectionable features of the old establishment" were discontinued. Tickets issued for admission at the gate could be used for refreshments of any kind. (1)
The Gardens were a popular place to celebrate the FOURTH OF JULY.
The 1878-79 Dubuque City Directory listed Couler Avenue. Used for picnics and offering a band stand for musical performances, the gardens collected an admission price of ten cents. (2)
