BRADY, ELLWANGER & CO.
BRADY, ELLWANGER & CO. In June, 1875 Michael Brady with his business partner John Peter ELLWANGER purchased two thirds of Francis Jaeger's wholesale liquor business. The new firm, Brady, Ellwanger & Company, was located at 422 Main according to the Dubuque City Directory. (1)
The 1883 through 1890-91 Dubuque City Directory stated that this business was located at 298 Main. In 1897 it was relocated to 398 Main. In addition to wines and liquors, the company offered "Acme Pepsin Bitters" which was marketed in an emerald green glass bottle. (2)
Brady died in May, 1899 and in June of that year the JOHN ELLWANGER COMPANY was incorporated on May 27, 1899. (3)
