BOWLING AND BEYOND
BOWLING AND BEYOND. See: RIVERSIDE BOWL
In 1958 the Dubuque Board of Dock Commissioners issued a 100-year lease to a five-acre Hawthorne Street parcel to RIVERSIDE BOWL. This bowling alley was later renamed Bowling and Beyond.
In 2012 the owners were granted a buyout of their lease for $1 million. (1) In August, 2018 the Dubuque City Council voted 6-0 to award a contract for asbestos abatement at the former bowling alley which had been vacant since 2012, the year the city bought out its lease. City officials planned to have the building deconstructed and the site prepared for redevelopment. (2)
Plans for an affordable-housing complex were unveiled around 2022 and groundbreaking began in the winter of 2024. The $55 million UNION AT THE MARINA was becoming reality.
