Bodnar, Evelyn M. (Huron, SD, Aug. 5, 1927--Dubuque, IA, Feb. 1, 2003). A part-time physical education teacher in the Dubuque parochial schools from 1951 to 1988, Bodnar served two years as vice-president/program director for the Retired Teachers' Association in Dubuque. From 1953 to 1978, she taught classes for the Red Cross and in 1970 choreographed dance sequences for the LORAS COLLEGE musical "Carnival."

Involved in many community service programs, Bodnar gave tours of the DUBUQUE COUNTY COURTHOUSE and OLD JAIL through the DUBUQUE MUSEUM OF ART. She helped with the SHARE program through OPERATION NEW VIEW and volunteered at the Discovery Shop whose profits went to cancer research. She performed in the child abuse prevention program "Happy Bear" and was a volunteer driver for non-driving patients to treatments at the Wendt Cancer Center. Bodnar was a First Judicial District, Department of Corrections board member and subsequently served as a delegate for the State of Iowa beginning in 1985. In 2001 she served on the Citizens Advisory Board for community-Based corrections and was completing eight years videotaping city and county meetings.

Bodnar received the WAHLERT CATHOLIC HIGH SCHOOL Volunteer Service Award, Community Action Award from Operation New View and was the recipient of the Community Service Award from Governor Terry Branstad.
