BLUFF STROKES
BLUFF STROKES. Plein air, meaning "open air" in French was the practice of painting outdoors utilizing natural light, color, and movement as it occurs naturally outside. In 2023, Bluff Strokes, an affiliate of the DUBUQUE COUNTY FINE ARTS SOCIETY was in its sixth year. It was not offered in 2020 or 2021 due to the PANDEMIC. Bluff Strokes offered workshops its first two years and began its first painting session in 2026 with 4r5 artists.
Two specific events offered included the Quick Paint from 8:30 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. and a Nocturne, or night paint, from 5:00 p.m.
Over $15,000 in first-, second-, and third=place awards were presented in categories including Mississippi Overlook,Riverfront Scene, Industrial, Street Scene, Rural Scene, Arboretum/Garden, and Artistic license. Paintings created were available for purchase at STEEPLE SQUARE and East 15th St. Catering. A young artist forum was planned as well as a demonstration for a CLARKE UNIVERSITY painting class.
