BARTELS, Mildred E. (Mrs. Carl F.). (Montrose, SD, May 12, 1902--Dubuque, IA, May 4, 1998). After attending Cornell College in Mount Vernon, Iowa and Iowa State College (later Iowa State University), Mildred taught in the public schools of Clear Lake, Iowa. She married Carl BARTELS in 1926.

Active in the Dubuque community, Mrs. Bartels was a member of the board of deacons of WESTMINSTER PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH and served on the American Cancer Society Board. She was a member of the Dubuque Girl Scout Council and organized the first Brownie Troop in Dubuque. As a member of the Julien Chapter of the DAUGHTERS OF THE AMERICAN REVOLUTION, she held the office of regent and was elected state regent of the ISDAR. She was a member of the Magna Chapter Dames of America, the Colonial Dames of America and was elected president of the Iowa Chapter XVI.
