ARTESIAN BOTTLING COMPANY. Artesian Bottling Company, started by Gus Meyer began operations in 1911. It specialized in all kinds of carbonated drinks specializing in Nuley and Cascade ginger ale. These were distributed locally and to Wisconsin, Illinois and other Iowa locations. The company purchased the syrup from other companies and then mixed and bottled the drinks locally. (1)

In 1989 Artesian was one of three independent bottling companies remaining in Iowa. Artesian Bottling Company, like other independents, sold soft drinks in clear ten-ounce bottles. The flavor of the drink was printed on the bottle cap. The company was founded in 1900.

The 1922 through 1945 Dubuque City Directory listed 2327 Central Avenue. This was the site of the SCHMID BREWERY, IOWA BREWERY, and the Weiss Beer Brewery before being purchased for the bottling company. A fire on July 10, 1945 destroyed all the buildings with the exception of the former beer hall. (2)

In 1930 the address was 2327 Central.

The 1948 Dubuque Classified Business Directory listed through 1951 Dubuque City Directory listed 2010 Central.

In 1968 the company was located at 901 Liberty Street.

The 1980 through 1993 Dubuque City Directory listed 900 Liberty.
