ARCHDIOCESAN BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT
ARCHDIOCESAN BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT. In 1925 the Dubuque Archdiocesan Athletic Association was established with the leadership of Msgr. John Mark WOLFE who believed in extracurricular activities. The same year the Archdiocesan Basketball Tournament was initiated at COLUMBIA COLLEGE for the secondary schools.
From 1925 through 1942 the winner of the local tournament played in the state Catholic championship. The state tournament closed in 1959 when the high schools all participated in the Iowa High School Athletic Association and state tournaments at the regional, sectional and state levels.
