APOSTOLIC FAITH TEMPLE
APOSTOLIC FAITH TEMPLE. In August of 1997, Bishop Shawn Baldwin was sent to take over a church located at 420 Lincoln Avenue, that had disbanded and was left without a pastor. There were only three members when he arrived and renamed the church, Apostolic Faith Temple.
The church was re-established at 21st and Elm. In 2000 the building was destroyed by fire. (2) The building had been extensively remodeled over the past year. While the building was empty at the time of the blaze, church members had attended a choir practice earlier in the evening. (3) In August it was announced that the cause of the fire had been an electrical-equipment failure. (4)
An outpouring of community support included the congregation being relocated temporarily to the THIRD PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH on Windsor Avenue and later IMMANUEL CONGREGATIONAL UNITED CHURCH OF CHRIST. (5) In 2017 the church renamed Tabernacle of Faith Church was located at 1780 White Street. (6)
In 2008 members of the "Just 4 the Boys" club hosted their first mini-carnival in the AUDUBON ELEMENTARY SCHOOL parking lot. The event was a fundraiser for a Governor Dodge State Park camping trip for the coming summer. The club was started in 2006 through the church with the goal of giving the boys a positive environment in which to play with positive male role models. (7)
