ANDREW & TREDWAY. According to the 1857-1858 through 1873-74 Dubuque City Directory, this business was located at 94 Main.
The 1875-1876 Dubuque City Directory placed the company at 488 Main.
The company had a trade area that reached into northern Iowa and the Dakotas in addition to southern Minnesota, Wisconsin and Illinois. On January 15, 1876 George W. Andrew and Andrew W. Tredway, sons of the founders, joined the firm which was then renamed Andrew, Tredway and Sons. (1)
Beginning in 1863, the company annually presented each of their workers $10.00 on Christmas eve. (2) In 2016 dollars this would have been the equivalent of $234.14. (3)
