GREENE, George. (Staffordshire, England, Apr. 15, 1817-Cedar Rapids, IA, June 23, 1880). Justice, Iowa Supreme Court. Greene, admitted to the Iowa bar in 1840, moved to Dubuque in 1845 after serving two sessions in the Iowa Legislature. He was editor of the Miner's Express for about three years.

In 1847 Greene was appointed by the governor to the Iowa Supreme Court, a position he held until 1855. During his term, Greene reported the Court's decisions. These reports were later published in four volumes known as Greene's Reports. Greene later moved to Cedar Rapids where he promoted manufacturing and RAILROADS.
