LIBERTY BANK. In May of 1998, a group of investors led by W. A. Krause, then president and CEO of Krause Gentle Corporation, acquired the Lakes National Bank in Arnolds Park, Iowa. By 2012 Liberty Bank now offers 19 full-service locations across Iowa, Illinois and Florida.

Since 1998, Liberty Bank, a subsidiary of Liberty Banshares Iowa, Inc., has grown assets internally and through acquisition. Liberty Bank in 2012 had nearly $726 million in total assets.

On May 4, 2012, Heartland Financial USA announced that it would purchase Liberty Bank locations in Dubuque and East Dubuque. Heartland would acquire the locations through DUBUQUE BANK AND TRUST, Heartland's flagship bank.
