BARMEIER HOUSE. Located on property that was once part of what was called the 'Fortune Estate,' this home was designed and built in 1850 by John KING. Limestone was quarried locally, but the wood inside was rafted down the MISSISSIPPI RIVER from Minnesota. Sawdust was used as insulation.

The home shows one of the first uses of SECOND EMPIRE ARCHITECTURE in the city.
