APEL, Peter. (Kirchberg, Luxembourg, May 16, 1863--Dubuque, IA, May 13, 1911). Apel emigrated to the United States in 1882 and settled in Dubuque. On October, 29, 1883, he married Margaret Welter. Their nine children included Nicholas (1885-1948), Michael (1886-1961), Peter (1888-1973), Susan Marie APEL (mother of John GRAAS), Emil (1892-1991) , Arthur (1896-1973) , Edward (1894-1956) , Francis (1900-1984) , and Merlin H. APEL.

Apel ran successfully in 1908 as the Citizen's Non-Partisan candidate for alderman-at-large from the south end of the city for the Dubuque City Council.
