FELDERMAN, Robert J. (Dubuque, IA-- ). Major General Robert John Felderman focused his primary civilian career efforts with Continental Realty Dubuque and Felderman Appraisals of Dubuque, Iowa, as an owner. He has worked as a real estate broker, a certified general real estate property appraiser and a real estate review appraiser since 1985. He has additional career experience managing a travel agency, serving as an advertising sales associate, as a supervisor with a meatpacking company, and in various construction duties including a marine electrician, welder and shipfitter.

General Felderman honorably served our nation in the Army, Army National Guard and the Air National Guard, retiring on Halloween of 2010 as a Major General. He culminated his career as a Joint Qualified Officer; and Army Branch qualified in Infantry, Armor, Cavalry, Medical Service Corps, Aviation and Strategic Plans & Operations. His 36- year career included over 10 years of active duty military and mobilizations, over 20 years flying, more than 2,200 flight hours, and a final rating as Master Army Aviator in helicopters.

Felderman is an experienced professional speaker, holding many professional and trade affiliation memberships, and is considered to have international subject matter expertise ranging from Real Estate to National Security Strategy to Terrorism to Homeland Security to Leadership to Policy.

General Felderman is a published author and photographer in numerous local, state and national publications and web pages. His efforts include an interview in Rolling Stone Magazine; an article in “The US Army and the Interagency Process: Historical Perspectives, the Proceedings of the Combat Studies Institute 2008 Military History Symposium, Combat Studies Institute Press, Fort Leavenworth, KS;” and “Political- Military Implications of Space Warfare on Homeland Defense and Allied Relations” in High Frontier Magazine for Air, Space and Missile Defense Professionals.

Since retirement, he has become a press photographer and columnist for the web based Dubuque 365 Regional Network and the Diamond Jo Casino covering concerts, speakers and other special events. Felderman writes a travel column and a policy column (The General’s Quarterly) for the Julien’s Journal Magazine of Dubuque, Iowa.

General Felderman has received a Bachelor of Science degree in Aviation Management and Flight Operations (University of Dubuque, Iowa); a Legislative Affairs Certificate (George Washington University, Washington, DC); and a Masters Degree in National Security Strategy (National Defense University, Washington, DC). He also graduated from numerous military schools to include, Infantry Officer Candidate School (Commandants List), Armor Officer Basic Course, Officer Rotary Wing Aviator Course (Honor Graduate), Armor Officer Advanced Course , Aviation Maintenance Officer Course, Medical Service Corps Advanced Course, Aeromedical Evacuation Pilot Course, Aviation Safety Officer Course, Aviation Maintenance Managers Course, Command and General Staff College, Aviation Senior Officer Pre-command Course, Combat Service and Combat Service Support Senior Officer Pre-Command Course, Joint Task Force Commanders Course, Nuclear Weapons School Senior Executive Course, Army Strategic Leadership Development Program, Defense Support of Civil Authorities Course, National War College and the National Defense University CAPSTONE Course.

While serving our nation, General Felderman earned the Defense Superior Service Medal, the Legion of Merit, the Meritorious Service Medal, the Army Commendation Medal, the Global War on Terror Service Medal, the Joint Meritorious Unit Award, the Outstanding Volunteer Service Award, and many others.

His civilian awards include the Iowa Association of REALTORS Gold Achievement Award, the National Defense University Writing Award, the Iowa Association of REALTORS Good Neighbor Award, the National Guard Association of the United States Distinguished Service Award, the Governor of Iowa Volunteer Award, the Army Aviation Association of America Order of Saint Michael, and the Iowa National Guard Officer Association CW4 Bruce A. Smith Superior Achievement Award. In 2010, General Felderman was inducted into the Fort Benning Infantry School Officer Candidate School Hall of Fame.

General Felderman is the son of John L. and Janet B. (Soppe) Felderman of Dubuque, Iowa. He is married to the former Nancy Said), has an adult son (Jacob), an adult daughter (Jamie Rae) is married to son-in-law (Scott Borland) and they have a gorgeous granddaughter (Adeline Rose). He spends his spare time golfing, bowling, bicycling, writing and traveling.

He was the first major general from Dubuque since Francis J. KELLY.
