NEWMAN, John. (Geneva, New York, October 20, 1832-- ). Newman began learned the carriage making trade by serving a five year apprenticeship. In the spring of 1854, he left the east and emigrated to Iowa where he began work as a carriage maker for Augustine A. COOPER.

Later Newman worked for Thomas CONNOLLY and Thomas ARMSTRONG. In 1877 he established his own carriage factory and in 1890 constructed a new factory, J. Newman & Son, manufacturers of carriages, buggies and wagons.
