JULIEN THEATER BUILDING (MASONIC HALL)
JULIEN THEATER BUILDING (MASONIC HALL). The Julien Theater Building was located at the corner of Locust and Fifth STREETS. Built in 1856 by Smith, Kinley & Poor, it is 100 feet long, 50 feet wide, and three stories high.
The upper story was leased as a theater, and the first and second floors were devoted to lawyers' offices. The investment did not prove financially profitable and, in 1870, the building was remodeled and used by the Young Men's Library Association, DUBUQUE AND SIOUX CITY RAILROAD, ILLINOIS CENTRAL RAILROAD and other corporations for offices. The upper floor, the theater, was used by the Masonic organization.
The Library Association later moved to Tenth street, but the remainder of the building continued to be used by the same organizations.
