FISCHER, Louis. (Byrne, Germany, 1837--Nov. 13, 1875). Businessman. Fischer came to Dubuque in 1856. When the CIVIL WAR broke out, he joined the Jackson Guards and fought in the battle of Wilson's Creek. In 1862, he entered the ICE business and was senior member of the firm of Fischer, Wheeler & Co.
Upon his death, Louis Fischer's wife Katherine FISCHER took over her husband's business.
