SCHRUP, Nicholas III. (Dubuque, IA, 1956-- ). President of ATBancorp (formerly Amtrust, Inc.); co-chair, president and chief executive officer of AMERICAN TRUST AND SAVINGS BANK; chairman of the board of American Bank & Trust.; director and founder of United American Bank, San Mateo, Calif.
As a teenager, Schrup operated the city's only private TELEVISION station. By selling coffee grinders door to door to earn money, he purchased the necessary equipment in 1969 to operate the station, WNIC-TV, from the basement of his family home at 330 Wartburg Place. In 1973 he graduated from Campion Jesuit High School, Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin. Schrup went on to earn his Bachelor of Business Administration from Loyola University, New Orleans and his Master of Business Administration from Golden Gate University, San Francisco.
He held memberships in the American Banks Association, Iowa Bankers Association, Independent Community Bankers, Iowa Independent Community Bankers and Robert Morris Association.
Within the community, Schrup held board positions with CLARKE UNIVERSITY, GREATER DUBUQUE DEVELOOPMENT CORPORATION, Boys and Girls Club of Greater Dubuque, and the Grand Opera House Foundation. He held the office of president of the DUBUQUE RACING ASSOCIATION.
