IOWA BREWERY. Local brewery established at 2327 and 2329 Couler Avenue. Founded in 1855 by Titus SCHMID, B. Scherr, and F. Beck as Titus Schmid and Company, the firm operated until 1877 when William H. MEUSER purchased the property. The company employed twelve workmen, earning a total of $620 per week, to produce five thousand barrels of beer annually.

In 1892 this company joined with others to form the DUBUQUE BREWING AND MALTING COMPANY.
