MICHELS, Elmer V. (Stacyville, IA, Feb. 21, 1932--Dubuque, IA, June 8, 2012). The son of Anton J. and Margaret (Hemann) Michels, Elmer graduated from the Visitation High School in Stacyville. He received his bachelor of arts degree in Latin and philosophy from LORAS COLLEGE and a master's degree in education from the University of Northern Iowa. He married Karen A. Theisen on December 28, 1971, at Nativity Catholic Church.

Elmer was employed by the city of Waterloo, Iowa, as a draftsman. He came to Dubuque in 1964 to teach Latin and the classics at Loras College. He was the first director of Binz Hall. During his tenure at Loras, Elmer was director of Teacher Placement and Licensure Officer, and professor and chairman of the Education Department.

Elmer was a member of NATIVITY CHURCH and their Rosary Society, Serra Club, Knights of Columbus and the Dubuque Area Retired School Personnel.
