Welcome to Encyclopedia Dubuque, the revised and expanded online form of the popular reference book Dubuque: The Encyclopedia written by Randolph W. Lyon. Encyclopedia Dubuque features thousands of images and articles relating to the history and culture of Dubuque, Iowa.
Special appreciation goes to several people in the development of this site. Michael May of the Carnegie-Stout Public Library saw the potential, developed the initial application to the city council, and pursued the awards we have received. Robert Joseph Reding has a love of Dubuque history and an eagerness to share his collection of Dubuque memorabilia that initially made most of the visual portion of this website possible. We have also enjoyed outstanding community support and have noted members of this "community of historians" individually with their contributions.
